What is Sober Living?

Sober Living provides recovering guests with an alcohol and drug free living environment.  Rules of conduct and ongoing support from both peers and Peer Coordinators help individuals transition into productive lives.

Sober living homes vary widely in
their effectiveness, as they are not
governed by any uniform standard
set of practices.  The Head of
Household and Peer Coordinators
should help with providing
a safe and comfortable surrounding
by enforcing house rules; otherwise,
guests may backslide at this most critical
place in their healing process.

Orange County Sober Living are members of the Sober Living Coalition, which is an organization that was created to regulate the quality and safety of sober living homes.

While rules will differ from house to house, there should be a basic understanding of zero-tolerance for alcohol and drug use and strong encouragement to attend meetings.  Rules typically cover these areas, as well as:  day-to-day house management (chores, etc.), curfews, drug testing, respect of environment and other house guests. Sober living is a time for individual guests to take control of their lives.  Peer Coordinators are present as role models  to help in this process as well as care for the safety and cleanliness of the facility and ensure rules are being followed.
